Pakistani passport holders need a Canadian Visitor Visa before traveling to Canada. Many applicants from Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Multan prefer expert visa assistance to ensure accurate documentation and approval.
Who Needs a Canada Visitor Visa?
Pakistani citizens travelling on a Pakistani passport generally require a Canadian Visitor Visa (TRV) before travelling to Canada for tourism, visiting family/friends or other permitted visitor activities.
The visitor visa is placed in the passport and allows the holder to seek entry to Canada.
Having a visa does not itself guarantee admission; the final decision to allow entry and determine the length of stay is made by the border services officer when the traveller arrives.
Common purposes include:
A visitor visa does not give permission to work in Canada. A person intending to work or study may require a different immigration document.
Basic Eligibility Requirements
IRCC states that a visitor-visa applicant must generally:
Ties can include employment, business, home/property, financial assets and family connections.
Importantly, there is no single officially prescribed bank-balance amount that guarantees a Canadian visitor visa.
The funds should be reasonable in relation to the applicant’s circumstances, proposed itinerary and duration of stay.
IRCC specifically considers how long the applicant will stay and whether they will stay in a hotel or with relatives/friends.
Documents for Pakistani Applicants
There is no universal document package that is identical for every applicant. When applying online, IRCC generates a personalized document checklist based on the applicant’s circumstances. However, a Pakistani applicant will commonly need evidence covering the following areas.
Our visa consultants in Islamabad and Multan help you prepare these documents correctly.
Valid Pakistani Passport
Provide a clear colour copy of the passport/travel document. IRCC currently advises that the passport or travel document should generally be valid for at least 6 months from the planned travel date. Applicants should provide the biographical page and pages containing stamps, visas or other markings.
Financial Evidence
Financial documents should demonstrate that the applicant can realistically pay for the proposed trip. Useful evidence may include:
IRCC’s application guidance specifically asks for bank information and recommends at least 6 months of account details, including balances, to help officers understand the applicant’s financial situation.
A large unexplained deposit immediately before applying can raise questions about the actual financial circumstances of the applicant. The important issue is not simply having a high balance; the financial story should be credible and consistent with the applicant’s income and circumstances.
Employment Evidence
For an employed Pakistani applicant, employment evidence can be particularly useful in demonstrating ongoing ties to Pakistan.
An employer letter should ideally explain relevant employment details, such as:
IRCC’s guidance says an employer letter should be on official letterhead and include the employer’s relevant contact and employment information.
For a business owner or self-employed applicant, documents showing the genuine operation of the business can be relevant, depending on the circumstances.
Family and Personal Ties in Pakistan
This is an important part of a visitor application. An applicant should be able to explain why they will return to Pakistan after the visit. Relevant circumstances can include:
There is no single document that proves “strong ties.” The officer assesses the applicant’s circumstances as a whole. IRCC expressly requires applicants to convince the officer that they have ties that will take them back to their country of residence and that they will leave Canada at the end of their visit.
Is an Invitation Letter Mandatory?
An invitation letter can be useful when visiting someone in Canada, but an invitation does not by itself guarantee visa approval. If you are visiting a relative or friend, explain:
IRCC states that an invitation letter may be required depending on the situation and can help confirm that the purpose of the visit is valid. If the Canadian host is financially supporting the applicant, the application should clearly explain the arrangement.
Travel History
Previous international travel can be included where relevant. Applicants may provide previous passports containing:
Travel history is only one part of an application. Having travelled previously does not automatically qualify someone for a Canadian visa. Similarly, a first-time international traveler is not automatically ineligible.
Canada Visitor Visa Fees
The current IRCC fee structure lists:
| Fee | Current Amount |
|---|---|
| Visitor visa | CAD $100 per person |
| Biometrics | CAD $85 per person |
| Family biometrics max | CAD $170 |
The actual amount payable can depend on the circumstances and whether an applicant is exempt from biometrics or another fee. For a family of five or more applying together, IRCC currently lists a CAD $500 family visitor-visa processing fee, subject to the applicable conditions.
Biometrics for Pakistani Applicants
Biometrics normally form part of the temporary-residence application process unless the applicant qualifies for an exemption. Biometrics consist of:
IRCC currently states that temporary-residence biometrics are generally valid for 10 years. If valid biometrics are already on file, an applicant may not need to provide them again, subject to IRCC’s rules. After applying, the applicant receives a Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL) where applicable and should arrange the biometrics appointment promptly.

Step 9: Passport Request
If the application is approved, an online applicant receives instructions through their IRCC account to submit the passport. The applicant cannot travel to Canada until the visitor visa has been placed in the passport.
How Long Does the Canada Visitor Visa Take?
There is no single fixed processing time for every Pakistani applicant.
IRCC’s official processing-time system varies by application type, location and other circumstances. The published processing time also does not necessarily include the time required to provide biometrics. Therefore, applicants should check the official IRCC processing-time tool immediately before applying rather than relying on an old number or an agent’s promised timeline.
Actual waiting times can be longer than the published estimate for some applications, so allow extra time before your planned travel date. Never plan an important trip around a guaranteed approval or guaranteed processing date.
How Long Is a Canada Visitor Visa Valid?
A Canadian visitor visa can be issued as a single-entry or multiple-entry visa, depending on the officer’s decision and the applicant’s circumstances. A multiple-entry visitor visa can generally be valid for up to 10 years, or until the expiry of the passport or biometrics, whichever comes first. An officer can issue a shorter validity period.
Important: Visa validity is not the same as permitted stay.
Most visitors can stay in Canada for up to 6 months per visit, although a border services officer can authorize a shorter or longer period in a particular case. For example, a visa could be valid for several years, but that does not mean the traveler can remain in Canada continuously for several years.
What Happens at the Canadian Airport?
A Canadian visa allows the traveler to seek entry; it does not guarantee entry. At the border, the Canada Border Services Agency can assess whether the traveler continues to meet the entry requirements.
The officer may ask about:
Most visitors can stay up to six months unless the border officer specifies another period.
Common Problems That Can Weaken an Application
Pakistani applicants should be particularly careful about consistency and credibility. Potential concerns can include:
The solution is not to manufacture stronger evidence. The application should accurately present the applicant’s genuine circumstances and provide documents that support those circumstances.
A Strong Application Should Tell One Consistent Story
For example:
Employment: Applicant earns a stated monthly salary.
Bank account: Statements reasonably reflect that income.
Trip: Applicant plans a short holiday in Canada.
Budget: Proposed expenses are realistic compared with available funds.
Leave: Employer confirms approved vacation.
Family: Applicant has continuing family responsibilities in Pakistan.
Return: Applicant explains why they need to return to Pakistan after the visit.
The documents should support the same story.
This is generally more useful than simply submitting a large number of unrelated documents.

Most Important Advice for Pakistani Applicants
There is no guaranteed bank balance, invitation letter or travel history that automatically produces a Canadian visitor visa.
The central question is whether the applicant can demonstrate a genuine temporary purpose, credible finances, admissibility and sufficient circumstances/ties supporting their intention to leave Canada at the end of the authorized visit.
Also, don’t confuse a Canada Visitor Visa with a work permit, study permit, Super Visa or permanent-residence application. Each has different eligibility requirements.
